How many sound setups do I need for my wedding?

DJ Lalo Flores is here to help you answer the question on how many sound setups you will need for your wedding.  For 95% of weddings, I bring at least one sound setup.  This consists of 2 JBL 515XT powered speakers, a wireless microphone and a mixer where you can also plug in an IPOD, guitar or microphone if you were to have a special singer during the wedding ( duos, trios and bands should bring their own equipment if they are to play during the wedding). My sound system is loud enough for up to 200 guests.  If all your events ( ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing) are all taking place in the exact same location of the venue, and I don't need to move my setup, then you will only need one setup for your entire event.

Lets look at some examples: The following wedding needed a total of 3 sound setups: one for the ceremony , one for the cocktail hour and one for the reception.

Ceremony Setup

At this particular wedding, the ceremony took place at the top of a mountain top. There was no electrical outlet to plug into within 25 feet, but the venue had a power generator that I was able to use. When we sign a contract, there is a stipulation that there be an electrical outlet within 25 feet that I can use since I don't own a generator (although we could always work something out, like bringing a different battery powered speaker for smaller ceremonies). Most of the time though, venues have outlets readily available. For ceremonies, I bring 1 JBL 515XT speaker, a computer to play the music,  and a wireless microphone on a stand that the officiant and bride and groom can use  so the guests can hear the vows.

The speaker is placed away from the microphone so it doesn't interfere with pictures coming down the aisle.

Cocktail hour setup

PictureGuests enjoy hors d'oeuvres and drinks during cocktail hour in an outdoor patio.
The second part of the wedding took place at a outdoor patio near a river. The venue had an electrical outlet very close by, During cocktail hour I play a nice blend of classic and modern songs at a comfortable volume so that guests can mingle and enjoy the hors d'oeuvres and drinks.  I can also play a set made up of songs of your choosing that have a special meaning to you. I provide a planning form to help you select the playlist.

Reception setup

The third part of the wedding took place indoors. The venue had many electrical outlets near my setup. The advantage of multiple setups, is that it helps with the flow of events; I made an announcement of the microphone to start heading in and there was already music playing indoors. The guests were excited for the bride and groom's grand entrance.  The only small issue is that dinner was to take place in the dining hall and not on the main floor. This was fixed by me turning the speaker a few degrees and moving the speaker as far as I could from my mixer, and the venue opening the doors to let the sound in. Had the dinner been  further away, or separated by a wall , then I would have had to bring a 4th sound setup, but I always try to make it work by moving equipment as much as possible to save you money.  After introductions, the guests had dinner, toast were made, and then everyone moved to  the dance floor to witness the awesome first dance, father-daughter dance, mother-son dance , bouquet and garter toss and cake cutting. After that everyone filled the dance floor and had a great night dancing.

The speaker on the right side of the photo is angled and off the stage, providing music for the dinner taking place in a nearby room. The doors are open, allowing the sound to come through

Contact me to discuss your audio needs

As you can see from the pictures above, three different areas needed sound. Contact DJ Lalo Flores and  go over the floor plans to see how many setups you need for your wedding.  95% of weddings need sound in at least one location. If I am able to plug into the P.A. system and not use my own speakers, I can offer you a discount off the total price. Keep in mind that many venue's PA systems were not designed to play music at loud levels that guests enjoy dancing to ( they are designed more for speeches and light background music). In addition, some venues charge the couple  more money to use to use the house sound system. Save money and let me take care of your audio needs. You also get some free lighting when you book your date.
