April showers bring... a lot of joy

The saying goes that April showers bring May flowers, but on this occasion, they turned in to lots of snow and even more happiness. It was unexpected to have a snowstorm this late in the month, but that did not stop DJ LALO FLORES and the guests from traveling to the Lodge at Cathedral Pines in Colorado Springs to celebrate Aneesah and Eric’s wedding.

The snow forced the ceremony to be moved inside, but DJ LALO FLORES arrived with plenty of time to do a sound check to make sure the ceremony went off without a hitch ( I-25 south highway was closed down by CDOT 2 hours into the wedding due to several accidents and icy roads).  Xiara, the day of wedding coordinator, checked in with the bride and groom, and sewed a button back on to a groomsman’s jacket.  She lined up the bridal party and gave DJ LALO his cues to play the processional music. Aneesah chose a piano cover of "Your Guardian Angel" by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for the bridal party processional, and an instrumental version of the the Sara Bareilles song "Gravity'' for herself to walk down the aisle. After the ceremony, Xiara the coordinator rearranged the chairs,  and then moved and decorated the tables properly. She set up the table numbers and directed the guests to their seats after the cocktail hour. She made sure that the timeline was being followed and made sure that the newlyweds were relaxed and hydrated before their grand entrance. When the time came she gave DJ LALO the cue for the grand intro. DJ LALO remixed the song "Mr. Carter" by Lil Wayne and "Partition" by Beyonce’ per the request of the couple. They did a fantastic job of making an entrance and the guests loved it. After that, the buffet dinner was served. The guests enjoyed the meal and the couple went around thanking everyone. Shortly after everyone had dined, the cake was cut and the dance floor was open. The guests never left the dance floor empty and partied long into the night despite the winter storm warning.

Here is what Aneesah had to say about DJ LALO FLORES on Wedding Wire

DJ Lalo and his wife Xiara made my wedding day amazing. Music was definitely my top priority because I love to dance and think the music for the ceremony and reception are so important. Lalo was great from beginning to end. He is organized and talented. He made us a custom mashup song for our entrance and played what I requested throughout the night. The music for the ceremony was perfect. Xiara was great as a day of coordinator. She put me at ease, made me laugh, and partied with us as well. I can't wait to work with them again and I hope that I will. Super sweet and professional couple.

NEW BACKDROP FOR PHOTO BOOTH

2/24/2017

As I mentioned previously, a photo booth is a great way to enhance any party, quinceañera, prom, wedding or corporate event. When you hire DJ LALO FLORES for your photo booth needs, you get to choose between 2 backdrops; a 9'X10' white backdrop or a a 4.5'X7' silver sequin one.

The advantage of the white backdrop is that colors and props really pop out in pictures. The backdrop is not competing with the guests and makes them the main focus of the picture. Since it is larger, more people can fit in a picture ( the record is 14) and couples can also take a pictures and the backdrop will not seem too big.

The advantage of the silver backdrop is that it is great for small groups and couples. It also takes up less space in the venue. The sequins create an interesting visual that attracts guests to the booth. It looks great at galas, weddings, quinces, princess parties, 1920's themed parties and other elegant events.

Take a look at some examples below and contact me when you are ready to book:

Triple the Fun at this quinceañera

HAZ CLIC PARA LEER EN ESPAÑOL
Picture
DJ Lalo Flores performed at this quinceañera that took place at the Castlewood Event Center in Englewood, Colorado. What really set it apart from other quinces, is that there were 3 birthday girls instead of one.  The young ladies had a fantastic, choreographed waltz with a special remix that DJ Lalo Flores created (which you can see in the video below) .  In addition, DJ Lalo Flores played 3 different songs for the father of the quinceañeras to share a special moment with each one of his daughters. Although it is traditional for the father to change the birthday girls shoes, the mother of the quinceañeras took over that duty because the dad though he would be too emotional to do it. After a delicious dinner, DJ Lalo encouraged the guests to join the dance floor. It helps that DJ Lalo is bilingual and can make announcements in English and Spanish. He played top 40 hits in English and a variety of latin dance songs in Spanish too. There were salsas, bachatas, merengues, and of course, cumbias. DJ Lalo also took requests and played mariachi songs and norteño music for the older guests who appreciate great music. Of course, everyone enjoyed classics like El Payaso de Rodeo and The Cupid Shuffle. The dance floor was full the whole night and it was three times the fun . Don't forget to hire DJ Lalo Flores for your next XV quinceanera celebration in Denver, Greeley , Fort Collins, Aurora and everywhere in between.

FUN AT CLUB TICO

10/26/2015

DJ Lalo Flores had the honor of performing at this wedding that took place at Club Tico in Fort Collins Colorado.
The bride and groom were looking for a bilingual dj that could make announcements and make sure the time-line of events flowed smoothly.  DJ Lalo Flores met with the couple before hand at a Starbucks in Denver to make sure he understood the vision for the big day. The bride selected 'I DO' by Jessie James Decker to walk down the aisle for her processional.  The groom had a very specific taste in latin music in Spanish, on the other hand the bride was more into top 40 and country music. DJ Lalo Flores was able to read the crowd and kept the dance floor packed all night. The guests requested cumbias sonideras, merengues, bachatas, norteñas and zapateados. Lalo Flores was assisted that night by his wife who played the role of day of coordinator and made sure all the events flowed smoothly. She lined up the bridal party for the ceremony, and made sure the officiants microphone was sounding good.  She even helped pour some champagne for the toast and serve the cake for the guests. DJ Lalo's bilingual skills came in handy as he was able to MC (emcee) and make all the announcements in English and Spanish.  Check out some of the pictures below and also some highlights in this compilation video.  Don't forget to contact DJ Lalo Flores if you are having a wedding in Fort Collins, Denver,Aurora, Estes Park, Greeley or anywhere in between!

How many sound setups do I need for my wedding?

8/13/2015

DJ Lalo Flores is here to help you answer the question on how many sound setups you will need for your wedding.  For 95% of weddings, I bring at least one sound setup.  This consists of 2 JBL 515XT powered speakers, a wireless microphone and a mixer where you can also plug in an IPOD, guitar or microphone if you were to have a special singer during the wedding ( duos, trios and bands should bring their own equipment if they are to play during the wedding). My sound system is loud enough for up to 200 guests.  If all your events ( ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing) are all taking place in the exact same location of the venue, and I don't need to move my setup, then you will only need one setup for your entire event.

Lets look at some examples: The following wedding needed a total of 3 sound setups: one for the ceremony , one for the cocktail hour and one for the reception.

Ceremony Setup

At this particular wedding, the ceremony took place at the top of a mountain top. There was no electrical outlet to plug into within 25 feet, but the venue had a power generator that I was able to use. When we sign a contract, there is a stipulation that there be an electrical outlet within 25 feet that I can use since I don't own a generator (although we could always work something out, like bringing a different battery powered speaker for smaller ceremonies). Most of the time though, venues have outlets readily available. For ceremonies, I bring 1 JBL 515XT speaker, a computer to play the music,  and a wireless microphone on a stand that the officiant and bride and groom can use  so the guests can hear the vows.

The microphone is set up so the officiant, bride and groom can be heard clearly by your guests.

The speaker is placed away from the microphone so it doesn't interfere with pictures coming down the aisle.

Cocktail hour setup

PictureGuests enjoy hors d'oeuvres and drinks during cocktail hour in an outdoor patio.
The second part of the wedding took place at a outdoor patio near a river. The venue had an electrical outlet very close by, During cocktail hour I play a nice blend of classic and modern songs at a comfortable volume so that guests can mingle and enjoy the hors d'oeuvres and drinks.  I can also play a set made up of songs of your choosing that have a special meaning to you. I provide a planning form to help you select the playlist.

Reception setup

The third part of the wedding took place indoors. The venue had many electrical outlets near my setup. The advantage of multiple setups, is that it helps with the flow of events; I made an announcement of the microphone to start heading in and there was already music playing indoors. The guests were excited for the bride and groom's grand entrance.  The only small issue is that dinner was to take place in the dining hall and not on the main floor. This was fixed by me turning the speaker a few degrees and moving the speaker as far as I could from my mixer, and the venue opening the doors to let the sound in. Had the dinner been  further away, or separated by a wall , then I would have had to bring a 4th sound setup, but I always try to make it work by moving equipment as much as possible to save you money.  After introductions, the guests had dinner, toast were made, and then everyone moved to  the dance floor to witness the awesome first dance, father-daughter dance, mother-son dance , bouquet and garter toss and cake cutting. After that everyone filled the dance floor and had a great night dancing.

The speaker on the right side of the photo is angled and off the stage, providing music for the dinner taking place in a nearby room. The doors are open, allowing the sound to come through

Contact me to discuss your audio needs

As you can see from the pictures above, three different areas needed sound. Contact DJ Lalo Flores and  go over the floor plans to see how many setups you need for your wedding.  95% of weddings need sound in at least one location. If I am able to plug into the P.A. system and not use my own speakers, I can offer you a discount off the total price. Keep in mind that many venue's PA systems were not designed to play music at loud levels that guests enjoy dancing to ( they are designed more for speeches and light background music). In addition, some venues charge the couple  more money to use to use the house sound system. Save money and let me take care of your audio needs. You also get some free lighting when you book your date.

So much music, so little time

1/31/2015

There is now more music available than a person could hear in their lifetime. Sadly, the radio stations only play maybe 1% of it and 99% of great music goes unheard...

Sometimes, it can be hard to pick which songs to listen to. My awesome wife and EMCEE got me a book for my birthday called 1000 Songs to Hear Before You Die. I enjoy learning about the story behind the songs and about the artists themselves. For example , did you know that "Save the last dance for me" was inspired by the wedding of famous composer Doc Pomus? Pomus had polio and was in a wheelchair during his wedding to a Broadway dancer. The lyrics then become like a page from his autobiography:

Oh, I know that the music's fine
Like sparkling wine go and have your fun
Laugh and sing but while we're apart
Don't give your heart to anyone

But don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin', save the last dance for me

If you like Save the Last Dance for Me, you could use it for your last dance at your wedding when you hire DJ LALO FLORES. You can also pick from this Spotify list of  other great songs for the last dance , or literally any  song that is special to you and your partner.

What songs do you think that I should add to the list? Leave me a comment below.
